French Minister Considers Crypto Donation For Notre-Dame After Raising $920 Million

The 850 years Notre-Dame cathedral in France which was gutted by fire on Monday has been getting series of donations after cathedral bells around France was rung on Wednesday in support for reconstruction of the church.

While the French government including President Emmanuel Macron pledged support towards rebuilding the beloved cathedral, the Minister for Digital Affairs in France, Cedric O, signaled consideration for crypto donation from benefactors as digital currencies continue to get more embrace across the world.

Cedric, according to Bloomberg, said “he’s open to discussing with crypto-currency platforms” to foster donations with digital currencies from around the world.

At the moment, crypto donation has not been initiated for the goodwill cause, but there are high possibilities that Bitcoin would be the only accepted crypto assets.

However, the French government, on Wednesday launched a website for the donation with connection to four ratified organizations.

“We had a day to create that website. But we are open to discussing with others. I think the more people we bring in, the more money we can raise,” Cedric said.

With reference to fiat donation, Cedric said crypto donation will take similar approach, and there will be no commission, funds will be remitted to the four organizations, and tax deduction info must be collected.

It has been reckoned on Wednesday, the same day which call for the donation began, that $920 million has been raised as different wealthy individuals and companies make pledges.

Binance Pledges Support For Rebuild Of Notre Dame

The world largest exchange, Binance, on Wednesday joined the solidarity train for Notre Dame rebuild, urging the crypto community to join the campaign.

Subsequently, Changpeng Zhao, CEO of Binance, also declared his support for the goodwill cause, imploring crypto user to help reinstate the historic landmark with Bitcoin.

“If we can push crypto to the last mile of the Cathedral building, it’s the ultimate adoption. Bring crypto to religion!” Zhao said.
