Shortly after the launch of Chang, an upgrade to the Cardano blockchain, some community members have pointed out that the efforts of Charles Hoskinson, the founder of the Cardano blockchain, may not be required for the ecosystem’s progress.
The observation was made under a statements by Chris O’Connor, the initiator of the Cardano Ghost Fund. He averred that the first assignment of the community should be to ensure both Charles Hoskinson and IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong) continue working on the development of some of Cardano’s use cases.
While O’Connor’s observations appear to be genuinely made in the interest of the Cardano Foundation, some members of the community vehemently opposed the suggestion. One of them is Robert Roose, the founder of Cardano interoperability service Mynth. He said having a central figure can affect the progress of the blockchain, stating that Charles is technically not involved in the technology behind Cardano. He furthered that the contribution of IOHK should be aligned with a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) model.
In his words, Charles’ service won’t be required as he was not “technically involved” in the Cardano technology, dispelling the need for central leadership. He suggested that those who wrote the Cardano code be given more opportunities than those who were not involved.
Reacting, Charles was surprised by the comment, asking people to tell him what they think he does at IOHK. While expressing his displeasure at some of the comments, Charles Hoskinson said he faced many challenges while building the Cardano blockchain over the last decade. He restated his commitment and focus on ensuring the growth of blockchain technology.
Charles further added that Cardano has reached a significant milestone in its development, calling it one of the “greatest technical achievements in human history.”
The Chang upgrade to the Cardano blockchain gives the Cardano community the right to elect governance representatives and vote on developmental proposals made by the community. As it stands, there is a high chance that Charles Hoskinson’s efforts may be eroded by the community, especially now that governance is in the hands of the members.
